Summary/Abstract: The sustainable consumption model is the alternative to” consumption society” concept in the sustainable development idea. That is why an initial trial has been undertaken in this article to present the problems of sustainable consumption in knowledge based economy environment using for this purpose theoretic solutions accepted in highly developed countries, especially in the EU ones. Particular attention has been focused on relation between knowledge based economy and sustainable consumption. The coherent main stream of analysed issues is the statement that in knowledge based economy there are possibilities of determinants acting in consumption stabilizing, which contain social-ecological and social-economic aspects. The sustainable consumption of natural resources has been showed as the main determinant in social-ecological aspect. On the other hand, as a social-economic aspect’s determinant there have been presented the changes in social value system and the rise of social education affecting the customers’ behavior. As a link between both determinants we can accept the development of public sector and of public green orders.
