Summary/Abstract: The aim of the present article is to analyse the translation of The Pearl written by John Steinbeck. The translator of the novel Juliusz Kydryński made significant linguistic changes that distort the original message (sense) of this literary work. While translating the novel, he made the text stylistically similar to his own works, to some extent, ignoring the intentions of Steinbeck. The analysis is based on the theoretical tenets of cognitive linguistics.
