Summary/Abstract: Contemporary preachings of the Church, together with the contemporary homiletics, see homily as a privileged way to spread God’s Word. Homily itself contributes greatly to the deepening of faith of the contemporary disciples of Christ. It does so by taking up the most important doctrinal and moral issues and, most importantly, by means of a direct meeting with Jesus Christ, who teaches through the Bible. The article discusses arguments for and against the substitution of homily for catechetic instruction. On balance, the fondness for catechetic instruction seems to be groundless.
