Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the latest trends in the field of bioethics, as a consequence of the discovery of the work of Fritz Jahr (1895-1953), the German theologian and teacher who conceived bioethics as a new discipline some fifty years before the American Van Rensselaer Potter. The study of European bioethics, as a promising alternative to the „American“ bioethics burdened with difficulties and controversies, has brought the authors of this paper to the launching of a project resulting, among other, in the „Rijeka Declaration on the Future of Bioethics“ presented in this work.
