Summary/Abstract: The paper offers an overview of traditional and modern approaches to the phenomena of death and dying, the paper focuses in particular on the Islamic, Tasawwuf-based view of reality. Comparing the different understandings of the purpose of dying and of death itself, we are able to identify several very interesting features.
