Summary/Abstract: It is not a secret that the EU’s social and economic landscape has seen better days. The effects of the financial and economic crisis have translated into a political crisis and social crisis at a European level. Nowadays it has become customary to talk, analyse and make predictions regarding the future of the European Union in the light of the crisis that has unravelled in the recent years. Not only are we talking about an economic and financial crisis, but more and more we are taking into consideration another layer of these troubles, namely a social crisis. The interaction between the social and the economic environments has been postulated for some time as an interdependence, which in times of crisis can be called contamination. However the circumstances, the European leaders are trying not only to fix the problems, but also to go to the root of the issue.
