Management of a Distance Education Course for Information Literacy Education: Experience and Future

Summary/Abstract: Living in a contemporary society promotes the development of abilities to manage information and knowledge in studies, work or everyday life situations. Rapid development of information technologies prompt changes in information searching tools and processes. In order to be successful people need to develop and update their information literacy competence continually. Integration of information literacy education into higher education curriculum is a challenging task for librarians, academics and administrators. Implementation of an information literacy education course in a virtual learning environment ensures new possibilities of information literacy competence development for all university community members.
