Summary/Abstract: It is obvious that a traditional image of the academic library is challenged daily. Nowadays some technological, cultural, etc. changes are happening in the academic library. A modern academic library needs to adopt a new client-centered philosophy of service. It is very important to investigate how libraries are seeking alternative or supplementary ways of extending access to information and provide all services needed for the academic community. Many difficult questions arise, for example, Who are our primary users? What are their research needs? What are cognitive aspects of information seeking? What do we really know about our users? The main statement is that good service defined by the librarians is not always the same as good service defined by the customers. Šiauliai University academic library some last years has been working intensively updating the provided services. The project “Biblionova” is being realized. It is important not only to realize the project but also to realize a qualitatively new model of library services. A research was carried out in September-October, 2007. 6 librarians from Šiauliai University academic library participated in the survey. The survey format of the pilot research was limited to qualitative research, interview. The sample of the respondents completely meets methodological requirements for a pilot qualitative research. This paper deals with the experience integrating the educational services of the academic library into the study process. The authors present educational preparedness and attitudes of the academic librarians, participants on the educational processes. Educational preparation, teaching experience, support for the module Information Management, new challenges and job satisfaction are discussed. The main results are presented. Based on research findings, the formulated proposals are hypothetical and require more detailed investigation.
