Summary/Abstract: This article considers some methodological problems of the research relating to problems of women and family. The inference is made that in many respects the empirical research in this area is often fragmental and one-sided. In order to surmount this flaw the idea is brought up that different models could be used for the total process of inductive research. First of all the attention focuses on the three phases of the cognition process — two inductive, based on data from practice, and one deductive, created by a logical approach. A classification is given of the basic directions (functions and tasks) of the research of problems of women and family. The first four are oriented towards servicing the tasks of social practice, and the fifth one — towards the development of scientific knowledge. An attempt is made to found a general model of the basic stages and components of empirical research for women and family, accenting those who are based on statistcal data. In it, three stages are outlined, each one of them with a specific number of questions and problems, which necessarily should be considered in each empirical research. The usage of such models on the way to knowledge creates the conditions for a more organized view on the whole cognition process, which is being realized in each statistical research. It contributes to the surmounting of too much fragmentation in the research, decreases the risk of missing substantially important elements and aspects of the researched object. The idea is defended that it will be useful to carry out a follow-up analysis of the way passed to cognition in each empirical research. To this end the technics of "retrospective projector" is suggested. Such an approach creates conditions for the assessment and usage much more effectively the accumulated experience of each inductive research not only in the area considered here but in general.
