Summary/Abstract: In literature there are some expressions more or less synonymous for explaining the dynamic relation between water and relief and the resulted landforms. Among these terms we mention hydrogeomorphology, hydromorphology, morphohydrography and fluvial geomorphology. Although the elements are common – specific river shaped landforms like channels, major streambed, ledges, slopes – landforms resulted from the interaction between water and relief – there are made some distinctions between these terms by different authors, from several countries who are preoccupied of this research field - fluvial geomorphology. We can see that in France or Peru the term “hydrogeomorphology” is used in a restrictive manner to describe the floodable areas, the landform resulted and that are influenced by these. In other geomorphological schools the term is used to describe the analysis of hydrographic basins, fluvial processes and the landforms resulted - this perception is similar with the Romanian one. In other cases the term“hydrogeomorphology” is used to establish the relationships between the processes of erosion and sedimentation. From this point of view the term emphasizes the fluvial dynamics and the specific processes like erosion, transport and sedimentation. As a conclusion, in Romanian literature a specific conceptualization of the term “hydrogeomorphology” does not exist, so a synthetic study about this concept, as studied and applied in different scientific literatures, it may be useful for the existing or future geomorphologysts.
