Summary/Abstract: According to the communist historiography, during the interwar period the owners of big factories or workshops, and landowners were exploiting the majority of the population. After the communists came to power, they were cataloged as "exploiters" and were eliminated from the public life, some of them even murdered. The issue of reposition of the property, which had been confiscated by the communist regime, arose in Romania after 1989. But a significant part of the population strongly resisted this, as after having been influenced by the communist ideology for so many years, they considered that the return of landowners would be bad for everybody. In this context, the study presented here intends to picture a different image of what the big landowners really represented during the interwar period, by analyzing the following subjects: -The everyday life on an agrarian property during the interwar period; the landowner was boyar Emil Marian from Bârca, Dolj County. During this period, the peasants who worked there were very happy with the payment; -The issue of the agricultural collectivization as it was perceived by this big landowner; -Boyar Emil Marian's image, as it was preserved within the collective memory; For this study we used the oral testimonies of some people that had personally met the boyar as well as some written materials and information offered to us by his son Dumitru Marian...
