Summary/Abstract: In the work entitled "The Leader's Image within the Gipsy Community in Buziaş" we wanted to analyze the attitude the members of a gipsy community have towards their leader. We also noticed the leader's self assumed role towards the group he belongs to, the inter-personal relationships and the hierarchy within the community. Particularly we studied the way the traditional leader was perceived by the community he represents, his economical and social attributions, the decaying of this Gypsy institution during the communist years. The last part of this work speaks about the years that followed 1990, trying to see if the old institutional structures, specific to the interwar period, were once again working. Thus, we analyzed what is called kris romani (the Gypsy trial court). We also studied their political attitudes and options, in order to offer an overview of what this minority represented during the last decade. As a conclusion we found out that the leader of this community represents its very nucleus, his respect and authority are unconditional; their way of life and mentality is something that can never be changed by any external, political or social factor.
