Summary/Abstract: Review of Dorota Masłowska’s fiction book Paw królowej [‘The Queen’s Peacock’], Lampa i Iskra Boża publishers, Warszawa 2005. The reviewer draws our attention to a specific stylistics of this piece of prose by Masłowska, approaching such a style of writing as a distinct sign of the author’s individuality, in the sphere of both form and content. Ms. Masłowska skilfully sneaks out any type of discourse which would like to appropriate her output whilst at the same time expropriate it of the language. She is not willing to fit into a linguistic template that waits prepared for her as a woman, and then, a mother. Her language differs from the one that her environment has at its disposal. And her book is different too, as it continues the linguistic and philosophical discoveries of Witold Gombrowicz’s Ferdydurke.
