Summary/Abstract: The variety of manner in which the image of the Other was researched, enabled including the literature on the Balkans into translation studies, image studies and postcolonial critic. The result of the research in this field show that the most important and long term representation of the Balkans is that on intersection zone. As an analytic term that postcolonial critics use, liminality has a potential to mark the complexity of geo-simbolic position of the Balkans. Pointing out the range of image studies, stressing the importance of postcolonial criticism in the process of understanding the image of the Balkans, pointing out the travelogue genre as an important source for researching the perception of this peninsula, various stereotyes on the Balkans are displayed. The aim is to review ongoing results on the research on the Balkans, identify sterotpes and iluminate the aplicated paradims.
