Summary/Abstract: The article presents a short history of Romanian immigration to the United States of America dividing it into three stages: Old Immigrants, New Immigrants and Refugees. Despite the fact that there are very few documents that have been preserved since 1789, the author provides the names of some of the first immigrants who fought the Civil War or even met Benjamin Franklin. The author focuses more on refugees due to the fact that they are the most numerous of the three categories and their condition is more problematic than the immigrants’ situation. Finally, the article underlines the importance of the establishment of the Iuliu Maniu American-Romanian Relief Foundation a quarter of century ago.
