Summary/Abstract: This article enters a discussion on ideologically-conditioned spatial relations in Polish socialist-realist satire (small satirical works) whose important context was established by visual compositions. The spatial categories operating in the socialist-realist iconography had their counterparts in the period literature, satire included. The present analysis concerns one of the most typical symbolic oppositions: the one of ‘upper level’ vs. ‘lower level’, whose doctrinal grounds are to be found in Boris Yefimov’s remark on a ‘true political scale’, being part of his commentary to some new works by Kukryniks team. The said scale enables to present the New Man (‘We’) and the enemy or ‘spoiler’ (‘Them’) in a proper proportion, whilst involving two perspectives: the ‘frog’s-eye view’ (looking up) and the ‘bird’s-eye view’ (looking down) and the correspondent repertoire of metaphorical structures, phraseologisms or lexical units of a spatial meaning.
