Summary/Abstract: Review of Małgorzata Czermińska’s book Gotyk i pisarze. Topika opisu katedry [‘Gothic style and writers. The topics of a description of cathedral] (słowo/obraz terytoria publishers, Gdańsk 2005). The Author of the book under review presents literary inspirations of Gothic style, particularly, its sacral architecture. Ms. Czermińska discusses the motif of cathedral in literary works of various periods, as a motif that reappears with varying intensity – conditional upon the tendencies prevailing in a given literary period. This has given birth to an extensive collection of texts which, despite their high diversity, has several common traits with respect to how Gothic cathedral is described.
