Summary/Abstract: The article contains an analysis of main features of speech act (SA) and speech genre (SG) of the «compliment» in compliance with J. Austin’s and J. Searle’s classifications of SA and with the «passport of SG» proposed by T. V. Shmeleva on basis of literary works of XVII-XVIII centuries.
