Summary/Abstract: Approximately from the middle of the 1950s Czech dialectologists tried to deal with dialect syntax as a comprehensive system different from the standard language. The main stimuli were: (a) the structuralist concept of the stratification of the national language; (b) the cult of the standard language; (c) the development of historical syntax. The opinion of the content and the role of dialect syntax changed. 1. Referring to history of the language, the dichotomy between spoken and written was emphasized. 2. Referring to the contemporary standard language, it is necessary to cancel the dichotomy between standard and non-standard, thus far employed. It is necessary to consider to which extent the systemic and non-systemic aspects in the dialect syntax should be applied. Previous research in this area resulted rather in scepticism: syntax is not phonology. The so-called colloquial speech needs to be explored, also at the syntactic level. And from this point of view, dialect speech represents the genuine form of the spontaneous spoken language, kept intact over the centuries. It should be a basis of the spoken corpora
