Summary/Abstract: This paper gives an overview of the main differences in the approach to privacy protection in the EU and the US (general regulatory approach, human rights vs. economic perspective, extraterritoriality, flexibility of data protection framework) and looks at the ongoing processes of reform on both sides of the Atlantic and at the forums for negotiations with a view to addressing these gaps (EU-US agreements, multilateral context).
