Summary/Abstract: REFLEXIVE ASPECT OF JAPANESE CONSUMER CULTURE: TAKASHI MURAKAMI’S SUPERFLAT Summary Drawing on the examples from the history of art, the author tries to reconstruct the genealogy of the works of contemporary Japanese artists connected to the postmodernist movement called Superflat. Manga authors, animators, painters and sculptors, such as Takashi Murakami, Koji Morimoto or Henmaru Machino, use mainstream visual culture as a space of critical exploration of the contemporary society of spectacle. The author presents the figures of the most important artists of the movement and, drawing on the examples of their work, he outlines the theory of Superflat. Trans. M. Bucholc
