Summary/Abstract: "New State" is the name adopted by António de Oliveira Salazar (1889–1970) to describe his political system (1932–1968 and continued on by Marcello Caetano until 1974). The "New State" was undoubtedly influenced by the Stato nuovo, an Italian expression whose ideals precede it and which comes to its fruition in Fascism.
