Summary/Abstract: This paper refers to the bases of the capital market development in the context of investment banking. The existing brokerage houses are certainly the nucleus of building investment banking in B&H and make up the driving force for the continuous development of capital market. The paper points out the necessity of involving all relevant participants on the B&H capital market for its better positioning both on the national and on the regional and even international financial market. In that sense, the overall relations on the B&H capital market will be reviewed in order to get a full picture and to point to potential guidelines for its development. The activities of the financial institutions on the B&H capital market will be defined through analysis while the appropriate conclusions to complete this topic will be made through the method of synthesis. The method of comparison can enable us to observe the current position of our capital market compared to the capital markets in the region. The standard research methods based on gathering information from relevant expert and scientific fields have also been used for this paper. The results of the paper indicate that there is a strong banking system in B&H and an insufficiently strong capital market as its counterpoise. Nevertheless, although the banking system of B&H leads over the capital market in terms of financial strength, market capitalization and turnover on both stock exchanges in B&H achieve constant growth.
