Summary/Abstract: The article defines prosocial personality, the history of its investigation, the resources and procedures of its research. It highlights the significance of such qualities of prosocial personality like altruism, moral standards, responsibility and empathy for the practice of helping professionals. It presents the multi-dimensional inventory for measurement of prosocial traits and tendencies of L. A. Penner et al. (Prosocial Personality Battery), informs about partial results of the research implemented at 828 university students of helping professions that ascertained the level and structure of prosocial traits and tendencies by the above stated method. The article analyzes the results from the research by gender, compares them with the data from the USA from where the inventory was taken over, pays attention to features and tendencies of prosocial personality in a specific set of individuals who help other people systematically on a long-term basis, i.e. of volunteers.
