Summary/Abstract: Review of Marek Zaleski’s book Zamiast. O twórczości Czesława Miłosza [‘Instead. On Czesław Miłosz’s output’], (Cracow 2005). The author discusses the basic interpretative contexts used by Mr. Zaleski in his afterthought on the oeuvre of the author of Ocalenie. Equivalence of literature is primarily discussed: literature is always ‘instead’ or ‘in place of’ the reality, also becoming an attempt at reconstruction of the world and at filling in the emptiness. But, it is also about adding meanings to those carried by reality as such. The author draws our attention on the philosophical contexts (Blanchot, Bloom, Derrida, others) in which Mr. Zaleski has placed Czesław Miłosz’s oeuvre.
