Summary/Abstract: Even if the existence and the l’ampleur of the ”cultural model“ are rather discutables, there is a series of frappants traits serving to illustrate a certain determination of a cultural nature which would be difficult to deny; among them, there are ”ways of speaking“ proven by characteristic traits and by morphologic, syntaxic and phonotactic models. The examples given come from the fields of the metaphirical language, of the idiomatic parler, of the collocation, of the use of proper names and so on. Teh authors express several doubts such as the primauté of bicultural aptitudes coming from the teachers of English as a foreign language, the supériorité (true or pretended) of English as a language of international communication, the real existence of a ”model“ English, the importance of the analyse of errors as instrument de travail in the contrastive and reflective activity, the posibility of liguistic manipulation through the importation of “useless” / “de luxe” neologisms etc., as well as some principal means of action most of them having a practical nature for the techers of English as a foreign language which are not native locuteurs.
