Summary/Abstract: The author examines how women perceive the facts and events that influence their lives. Women's experience in everyday life – in the family circle, in the professional milieu and in the contracts with the neighbourhood, is tried to be reflected in virtue of their own notions of these three kinds of setting. The stories are the main source of information here. The author is particularly interested in one of the social dimensions of life stories – everyone’s life is а synthesis of social relations and social history, expressed in certain activities and ways of life. On the other hand, attention is also drawn to the events represented in the biographical accounts, which could be reconstructed; to the interpretations and depictions of the past, etc. The social group under study has perceptions of its own existence, in which family, job and sociability mutually determine each other. The article is only an introduction to the ideas, worked out in the book: “Vides de dona. Treball, familia i sociabilitat entre les dones des classes populars”. Barcelona, 1990.
