Summary/Abstract: One of the forms of cult, be it liturgical or extra-liturgical, is sacred music. This issue may be approached both from the perspective of the forms that are used in the cultic form, and of the subjects brought up in the music. Also, the subject of the cult expressed in the musical form is an important aspect here. Since the beginning of the existence of Christianity in Poland, beside the Holy Trinity and Christ Himself the Virgin Mary has been the object of cult. The Marian cult in music in Poland goes back to the Medieval times and has been practiced incessantly until modern times. The multitude of forms, like songs, canticles, hymns, sequences, antiphons, Marian oratories, allows not only expressing veneration for the Mother of God, but first of all it becomes a way to discover her presence in Christian life.
