Lemology: a new deal

Summary/Abstract: Review of Maciej Płaza’s book 'O poznaniu w twórczości Stanisława Lema' [‘On cognition in the oeuvre of Stanisław Lem’], Wrocław University Press, Wrocław, 2006. By this far, the trouble with interpreting the output of Stanisław Lem has consisted in the fact that the subject has been approached, as a rule, by experts representing a single – usually, humanistic – discipline, who proved incapable of coping with a whole spectrum of issues and scientific languages that are merged into a single discourse in Lem. The book by M. Płaza is unique in that the oeuvre is interpreted by a scholar equipped with excellent knowledge of literary-theoretical and philosophical discourses, who moreover is capable of dealing with the language of theory of science.
