Liquidation of the Greek Catholic Church from 1939-1946

Summary/Abstract: The twentieth century for the Greek Catholic Church of the Byzantine-Ukrainian rite is associated with a particularly difficult period: the persecution of the clergy and the faithful people. Through the hostile policy of the Soviet Union the Church was forced to act in secret. That became the basis for the Ukrainian patriotism, national and religion self-identification for a large number of faithful living particularly in the territory of Western Ukraine.
