Summary/Abstract: One of the postulates for successful office and archive work is the proper records keeping, of base and also of subsidiary records. In the last period, a certain kind of records were used by the holders, most of all the Case Register, as a base record of all documentation. Some records, one can easily say, were used less (document census, delivery books, mail books etc.), and some, were almost not used at all (card files, registry etc.). In accord with some legal regulations, mostly the Law on Administrative Procedure, for the subject to administrative proceedings some other records were also kept – registries for subjects in first and second instance of administrative proceedings. In order to avoid such inconsistencies in the legal interpretation, and to find a more suitable measures to solve and improve the present situation in the field, would be advisable to render a more comprehensive legal regulation, having in mind the capacities of the holders, the Archives and the relevant institutions in the Republic of Macedonia.
