Summary/Abstract: Within the theoretical framework of Conceptual Metaphor and Metonymy Theory we deal with three metaphoric and metonymic conceptualizations of the HEAD in English and Serbian (THE HEAD IS AN OBJECT; THE HEAD IS A CONTAINER, and THE HEAD STANDS FOR A PERSON) to establish whether they manifest any cross-conceptual, cross-linguistic or cross-cultural differences. Since the mind is embodied, and both English and Serbian are cerebrocentric languages in which the head is seen as the locus of reasoning, we expect to find little difference in the three conceptualizations of the head between the two languages. However, since the mind is also culturally constructed, we hypothesise that the differences will mainly manifest in the linguistic instantiations in the two languages.
