Summary/Abstract: The article consists of three parts. In the first one the author specifies basic discriminants of religious poetry and displays different attempts at classification of the notion of "priestly poetry" (according to S. Sawicki and A. Kamieńska). The author points out the motifs, key words and characteristic picturing elements in the literary output of the priest poets. In the second part of the article the author presents a creative character of Father Jerzy Szymik, whereas in the third part she discusses the problems and artistic values of selected poems by Father Jerzy Szymik as well as analyses his three latest poetic collections: The Biggest One Is, The Blue and God's Patience, pointing to some of the motifs present in Father J. Szymik's poetry. Szymik tackles difficult subjects: suffering, loneliness, longing, uncertainty and death. Authenticity, the poetics of dialogue, the use of paradox, antithesis, rhetorical questions and repetition are characteristic of Jerzy Szymik's individual style. Those elements create "the mystical cardiosurgery" and the specificity of Father Jerzy Szymik's poetry.
