Summary/Abstract: The process of decentralisation of Yugoslavia from the beginning of the 1970-ies was followed by a strong centralization of the Party. Special emphasis was placed on the study and promotion of Marxist thought. The publishing of Marxist literature was intensified and various forms of Marxist Party education were organized such as lectures, seminars, courses, special political schools etc. In this context, during 1973 in Bosnia and Herzegovina the Marxist Study Centre VeljkoVlahović was organized. Within this Centre, in 1982, the Institute for the Study of National Relations was formed. Through the analysis of the journal “Sveske”, published by the Institute, we can reconstruct the Party stance towards the question of national identity, relations between nation and religion, as well as towards the issue of the religious and national identity in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the 1980-ies.
