Summary/Abstract: After the defeat of France the Polish film crews that worked in Paris were forced to evacuate to London, where the Government of the Republic of Poland (RoP) in Exile was just being created. On the initiative of Eugeniusz Cękalski the Polish Film Office was formed and Eugeniusz Cękalski was appointed its head. The Office was part of the Ministry of Information and Documentation of the RoP, and it became a member of the Film Committee of the Allied, which associated film organisations from all the European governments-in-exile that had their seats in Great Britain. The main objective of the Polish Film Office was to inform public opinion of war vicissitudes of Polish citizens, of the fate of the country under the German occupation and of the Polish army getting ready to fight the enemy. The addressees of such messages were cinema goers in Great Britain, citizens of the Allied and neutral countries, beneficiaries of the Polish centres all over the world and military units. It goes without saying that the films made by the Office had to be in two or more linguistic versions.
