Summary/Abstract: Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have been playing a key role in economies in different countries and regions for years. They represent over 99% of non-financial companies. Their major importance provides not only a dominant position in terms of number of players, but also a contribution in the creation of jobs and national income. A key factor in the strength and success of small and medium companies is their access to financial resources. Research shows that SMEs face greater difficulties in access to financing sources than larger companies. Financing their activities, especially the development of SMEs, involves less financial resources of external origin, especially banks. These problems should be considered an important determinant of the development of this sector, especially in the first years of activity of SMEs and during emerging of the economic crises. This is due to financialization. The article, based on literature, reporting and statistical data, analyzed manifestations of financialization on the corporate credit market.
