Summary/Abstract: The author’s main object of analysis in the article are small towns in Poland which during the last 15 years are characterized by the dynamic processes of depopulation. These are 26 small towns (‘shrinking towns’) in which the number of population has decreased more than 10%. Depopulation is one of the biggest challenges in Poland; especially for local authorities. In this situation two key issues considered by the author as the main purposes of the article seem to be interested. Firstly; if and to what extent the depopulation is perceived as a problem by local authorities? Secondly; if and to what extent local authorities plan to affect the existing demographic situation. All analyzes presented in the article are based on local strategic documents (especially on local development strategies).
