Summary/Abstract: Karl Topia’s Principality, or as otherwise known Principality of Arbri, was established by the end of fifties in fourteenth century. Its center, in the beginning, was in Petrelë, whereas later in Krujë. By passing through a difficult territorial expansion and independent ruling, Karl made great efforts to take over Durrës, which was under Anzhuin power and was distinguished by high yearly incomes. In order to acive this goal, he, in the early sixties, fought the nobleman Vlash Matërë-ngën, which had same goals regarding that city. However, Karl showed as more powerful Lord in this conflict and, with continuous attacks from the land and the sea, forced the city to pay him yearly contribu-tions. This partial success became relative in front of the risk of the Republic of Venice, which in order to preserve its interests in the Adriatic Sea, rejected empowerment of Arberorian Lord. It even planned to burn down Karl’s Vessels and to ruin his castle Meli, in south of Durrës. Since it didn’t happen, Republic incited Balshaj in the war against him. After several years of war both sides, finally, achi-eved peace agreement which was reinforced by a dynasty marriage. Meanwhile, Karl normalized relations with the Republic, but against its will it kept in the sea armed vessels. Besides these developments, Karl achieved to take over Durrrës, but it couldn’t keep it under his po-wer for many years.
