Summary/Abstract: South of Miercurea Ciuc, on the right-hand bank of Olt River, above Băile Jigodin, we find a rocky beak (alt. 709m) that closes the lower part of the Ciucul de Mijloc Depression. On the fitted plateau are the ruins of the Dacian fortress known in the specialized writings as Jigodin I or Jigodin – the “Death Field” (Malomföld). Several archaeologists have researched the fortress over the years and, starting with 1980, there have been systematic excavations, save for some interruptions. A telecommunications antenna was placed inside the fortress in 1997 and the works on that caused the full destruction of over 50% of the plateau and of the walls on the western and northwestern sides. The plateau is elongated (65 x 45 m), irregular in shape. A stonewall is erected on its margins. Traces, similar nowadays to that of a vallum, are well outlined on the southern and western sides. The access road entered the fortress from the south, after going round the hill’s northern and eastern sides.
