Summary/Abstract: Heart diseases and diseases of the musculoskeletal system are often chronic diseaseswhich cause irreversible changes in the body. A disease, and the problems associatedwith it, influence the physical and mental functioning. In a difficult situation, human behaviour, especially in illness, is associated with temperamental traits. Temperamentinfluences the ability to adapt to changes in life. This work is related to temperament and the occurrence of psychosomatic syndromes taking into account patientswith heart diseases and with diseases of the musculoskeletal system. 48 patients withheart diseases participated in the study. They were patients of a health spa. Their temperamentwas tested using the EAS-D and FCZ-KT questionnaires, while their psychosomaticsyndromes were tested using The Diagnostic Criteria for PsychosomaticResearch (DCPR). An analysis of the results shows that in the examined patients, themost frequent psychosomatic syndromes were: denial of the disease, the behaviourpattern A, and an irritated mood. A statistically significant relationship has been foundbetween temperament and the occurrence of psychosomatic syndromes.
