Summary/Abstract: Facebook is recently the most prevalent social network in Poland and therefore have essential role in political communication. First of all, the usage of this communication channel significantly contributes to empowering the electorate and enables voters to become active participants of communication process. Facebook also provides a great communication tool from the politicians’ perspective because of its low cost and potential in permanent communication process. Presented article discusses the Facebook activity of local politicians from Silesian Voivodeship (voyts, mayors, mayor of towns with poviat rights and poviat starosts). The author conducted the quantitative research aimed at examining the type of Facebook posts and number of posts, comments, likes and shares. Results of the research confirm that social network tools are more intensively used by mayors of towns with poviat rights than other local politicians. The official profiles of local representatives are not attractive to the voters due to small amount of posts and irregular updating. For that reason, the local community demonstrates scant interest in online activity on politicians’ profiles.
