LET’S BE FRIENDS: INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS FOR INTERCULTURALISM IN TAIWAN?

Summary/Abstract: Interculturalism is a recent term that refers to the process of enhancing dialogues between different groups in international society. This paper analyzes two educational and cultural projects of the Taiwanese government that were created for the purpose of fostering intercultural relations with other countries. The analysis shows that intercultural dialogues can rarely be separated from geopolitics, economic concerns, and cultural identity. As such, interculturalism should take these factors into account in the efforts to promote genuine intercultural dialogues.
