British EU reform proposal: role of national parliaments in the EU

Summary/Abstract: The article looks at the selected aspects of the British government’s bid to reform the EU. Particular attention is placed on the role of national parliaments. The author begins with a general background on the British proposals and rationale behind it in the context of membership referendum. Then, a proposal related to national parliaments is discussed, particularly House of Lords EU Committee inquiry to explore ways in which national parliaments could play an active role in enhancing the accountability and legitimacy of the EU.
