Summary/Abstract: Cloud computing is the most discussed topic in recent years in the business community and among IT specialists. The first part of the article analyzes the technological dimensions of cloud computing and the new opportunities offered by the business. The second part examines the benefits and risks that companies must account for in the transition to cloud computing. The third part presents the possibilities of three architectural models for cloud computing implantation in the corporate IT infrastructure: Infrastructure-as-a-Service, IaaS ("infrastructure as a service"), Platform-as-a-Service ("platform as a service" ) and Application-as-a-Service, SaaS or AaaS ("application as a service). The author’s main thesis is that Cloud Computing technology should not be regarded as a temporary phenomenon or a kind of revolution in the field of e-business. A tendency towards a transition to a mixed computing environment is more clearly outlined for many companies. Applications, infrastructure, and business processes in some cases are generally available to the cloud providers in this virtual cloud environment. Building of cloud systems at the same time is a complex, multistage process that requires very careful analysis and planning.
