Summary/Abstract: This article presents the primary lines of division in Austrian society, with a particular emphasis on political culture. It analyses contemporary culture wars from a historical perspective and presents the specific process of forming the Austrian nation, with particular attention being paid to those items that have had the greatest impact on the shape of contemporary political culture in Austria.The Austrian Empire under the rule of the Habsburgs, which evolved into the modern era, is the institutional foundation of today's Austrian state and also the basis on which the Austrian nation and its identity have been established, along with divisions, which exemplifies a hotbed of culture wars.
