Summary/Abstract: Commercial law (private economic law) is, in accordance with the principle of unity, the area which is a part of the branch of civil law. In the light of the above, what is applicable within commercial law are both the branch principles of civil law and the principles of the branch of commercial law which supplement, or modify the branch principles. The principles of commercial law shall be regarded as expressing the values, objectives and functions that are fundamental to this area. The inventory of commercial law principles should include the following principles: economic freedom, the turnover ratio, safety and security of business transactions, equal opportunities in entrepreneurship, professionalism, economic risk, respect for consumers’ rights and commercial honesty. The principle of commercial honesty involves the obligation to respect good commercial practices. The scope of this principle is broad, established by a general clause, and thus its content scope is shaped by non-systemic values. In any case, the essence of the concept of ‘good practice’ is the broadly understood respect for another human being. Commercial honesty (honesty of merchants) should apply to the whole of their activities, both in internal and external relations. The principle of commercial honesty can be treated as a special supplement of the principle of equity in the area of commercial law, due to the specific nature of the legal relations it refers to. It remains in relation to other principles of commercial law. Its breach results primarily in civil law sanctions.
