Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the constitutional principle of the protection of legitimate expectations under criminal law in a legal norms’ internalization perspective. We discuss it against the wider backdrop of criminal law rules, their role in the system, the place, assuming value and ways of solving conflicts between different rules. The text deals with the nature of the principle, its role in the rule of law perspective, chosen aspects of its conflict with the justice principle, especially as far as limitation law is concerned. The last thing is discussed also with reference to the principle of the protection of vested interests and the principle of non-retroactivity of law. Special attention is paid to the role that the legitimate expectations protection plays in understanding nullum crimen sine lege rule. One of the main points is the problem of law norms' internalization as a condition of effectiveness of the legitimate expectations protection principle.
