Summary/Abstract: The article investigates widespread in Russian society of the XIX- early XX century phenomenon of unequal marriages between nobles and gypsies. The author examines the sources and mechanisms of formation of the image of the Gypsy women in of that time society. In this context it is important to determine the place of Gypsy choirs in the life of Russian aristocracy. It is possible, in particular through the analysis of that period literature. Gypsy theme (including social problem of unequal marriages) was one of the key themes in Russian literature and gypsy woman was reflected in a romanticized image.
