Summary/Abstract: There is a great deal of concern that the United States government is moving away from being a true democracy with a level playing field for rich and poor and is becoming a country that is ruled by the wealthy. Moreover, the public is losing its confidence in its leaders and institutions. More than 3,000 years ago, Asaph, the Levite poet and prophet, saw the United Kingdom of Israel reach a peak and rapidly decline. Asaph’s Psalm 82 describes what went wrong. If America wants to remain a world power, it must heed Asaph’s lesson.
