Viewing the body – aspects of forensic and criminal procedure

Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the concept, purposes and legal grounds of viewing of bodies. Various typesand manners of viewing of bodies, as well as the necessary procedures are discussed. It is concluded that the regulations of the Polish penal procedure admit the viewing of bodies, while failingto stipulate the vital and even fundamental requirements for this procedure to take place. Theconsequences of this procedure are also indicated (such as the possible negative psychologicalimpact when a body is viewed by minors or pregnant women, or the influence of suggestionon the results of such procedure) which can significantly impact the results of this forensic procedure.
